Stop 8: Kentucky

“Sammie’s” 8th stop was Kentucky

“Sammie” got to visit a school in Kentucky!

Their community is collecting caps to get 24 buddy benches in memory of victims of a tornado.

Sammie donated their first bench last year.

The students were excited to read Sammie’s book and talk about kindness.

“Sammie” got to see the first buddy bench and even got to sort some caps while she was there.

Next up Arizona!

Stop 6 & 7: Hawaii & Nevada

“Sammie’s” 6th Stop was Hawaii and 7th Stop was Nevada!

Aloha! How neat that teacher Jaime offered to take “Sammie” on spring break with her!

Find out below what she got to do and see:

“She enjoyed the beautiful sights at Kualoa Ranch - especially the flowers!

Germaine’s Luau might have been her favorite stop of the trip! She loved the music and dancing. She even got to meet one of the hula dancers!

Leonard’s bakery is a famous stop in Hawaii! It can be seen in some movies (Finding Ohana on Netflix most recently). The malasadas are delicious!

Next up was a quick stop at the Dole Plantation to see a baby pineapple that was just her size!

After such a busy day exploring the island, she was ready to relax by the resort’s lagoon. Don’t worry! She wore her sunscreen!

Before leaving Hawai’i, she loved watching the planes at the airport. She even met a new friend, a shark that a couple at the airport takes pictures of on their adventures!

The flight to Las Vegas was pretty uneventful, so she hung out in the window for part of the flight. The views were pretty amazing!

Then, she got to visit Las Vegas for a quick layover! Did you know there are slot machines EVERYWHERE in the airport? Since you have to be 21 to enter those, she just checked them out from afar.” Jamie

Stop 5: Illinois

“Sammie’s” 5th stop was May Watts Elementary School in Illinois

Sammie got to visit this school right after their spring break. Her book was read to a 4th grade class and she got to see how the school promotes kindness, even in their hallways!

Next up “Sammie” gets to go on a fun Spring Break trip with a teacher! Hawaii here we come!

Stop 4: Mississippi

“Sammie’s” 4th Stop was a school in Mississippi

“Sammie” had a great time meeting students, hanging with some stuffed animals and sharing her book about how you can make a difference no matter your age!

The students were encouraged to do a kind deed before “Sammie” headed to her next location… Illinois

Stop 3: Louisiana

“Sammie’s” 3rd Stop was Louisiana!

“Sammie” got to visit and inspire a group of kids and participate in their service project! Read below what her host said!

“I told the Ann Fairfax Society Children of the American Revolution about how young Sammie was when she had this idea of a Buddy Bench and how she began collecting the caps and lids. Most of our little group is younger than 10, so they definitely could relate. I asked them if they ever had a really big idea and we talked about how great things can happen when you have a good idea. “Sammie” helped with our service project of sorting seed packets for the Hindman Settlement School. Their area was decimated last year by the floods in Kentucky. The school shoes the seed packets with the community to encourage the local people to grown their own food. The school offers classes and programs in planting crops, tending to them, cooking and preserving. We are sending them over 850+ seed packets!

Personally I began collecting caps and lids last August as a “Service in Seconds” project for the Louisiana Daughters of the American Revolution. This project has been incredibly successful. Even little ladies in nursing homes are collecting, we have a husband of a member working on an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico collecting from his crew, not to even mention the scout troops, Sunday School classes, Bible study groups and all the others collecting! My original goal was to place a bench at each of the 5 Veterans homes in the state. Well, guess what! I’m only 400 pounds away from having 10 benches. This has been an amazing project and truly it only takes seconds to save those caps and lids. I know we will reach this goal and get 10 benches! Then we can place 2 benches at each Veterans home! (Note: They now have their benches!)

I loved Sammie’s book so much that I ordered 3 books from Amazon and they came in 2 days!!! We are going to add them to our Little Free Libraries that we sponsor. She is truly an inspiration to so many. “ Margaret

Now off to Mississippi!

Stop 2: Texas

“Sammie’s” 2nd stop was a school in Texas

Her visit happened to be during Read Across America week! Her host was a wonderful librarian that shared her book with her classes and let “Sammie” participate in a book parade!

She loved meeting so many students and the librarian loved having her visit so much that she had another printed “Sammie” that she could keep in the school as a reminder to the students to be kind and be a friend!

Next Stop Louisiana!

Stop 1: Indiana

“Sammie’s” first stop was Haley Elementary School in Fort Wayne Indiana!

She got to visit Sammie’s former teacher Ms. Hargrove’s class. While hanging out, her book “Inspire the World: A Kid’s Journey to making a Difference” was read and the 4th grade students were inspired.

“Sammie” had a very busy few days!

She met….

The class, Ms. Tina (who takes care of the school), Mr. Howard (the principal), and Nurse Karen, who needed her temp taken

Sammie helped…

Various students with Presidents’ Day activities, various students with learning activities on computers, in the office running copies, hole punching papers and sharpening pencils!

She encouraged the class to do a kind deed before she was packed up and on her way to her next location Texas!

Sending Sammie State 2 State

“Sammie” and her book are ready to go on an adventure!

“Sammie” & her book “Inspire the World: A Kid’s Journey to Making a Difference” are going on an adventure around the US and beyond! Not only will she be visiting schools, groups and families but also encouraging them to do a kind deed before she goes to her next destination.
